POTS (Plain-old telephone service) the mainspring of traditional burglar and fire alarm signal transmissions are coming to a mandatory end by 2017, with the impending 2G Sunset.
One of the most newsworthy items for the alarm industry was AT&T’s announcement that it will shut down 2G service by Jan. 1, 2017.
"There are 700,000 lines going down a month, that's 8 million a year," Dean said. "In a few more years there won't be any more landlines."
The industry doesn't trust broadband to be 100 percent reliable and Land Lines will be obsolete, so customers have to go to 3rd Generation or (3G) platform.
Time is of the Essence: Lance Dean, co founder of New York-based 2GIG Technologies, felt the impending switch was not a matter of "if," but of "when."
